Jonathon Ebanks (r) with his mother Juliette Gooding
Friday, August 6, 2004
A member of Bodden Town Football Club and the U17 National team Jonathan
Ebanks. He will receive training and guidance from some of the best coaches in
the world when he visits Manchester United’s Soccer School in the UK from 11-24
August.
Jonathan believes that he was blessed with the ability to be a professional
player. He believes that he has natural talent but that he needs more challenge
to help him reach his full potential. He said that he will continue to work at
getting good grades because he knows his mother would stop him from playing
otherwise.
He identifies his strengths as being a team player, believing that if he
scores a goal it is not his goal but it is the team’s goal. He believes that he
is able to anticipate certain plays from the opponents and therefore can
position himself in the best place. He also is willing to share the ball and
believes his unselfishness allows his team-mates score.
In support of Jonathan, his mother contacted the Manchester Soccer School and
his application was successful.
During his time at Manchester United School, Jonathan will learn about sport
science, nutrition, and football techniques. He will also visit Old Trafford and
perhaps meet some of the international players.
His skills will be assessed at the end of his training and there will be an
awards ceremony.
Coach of Bodden Town Football Club, Elbert McLean believes Jonathon will do
well and make his team proud. Jonathan appreciates all the support and guidance
he has been receiving from Coach Elbert and thanks all the coaches he has had so
far for giving him the opportunity to participate in the sport he loves.
Jonathon hopes that this is an opportunity for scouts to discover his talent
and ability and that it would lead to greater career prospects.
The training will be at the grounds at Denstone College in Uttoxeter
Staffordshire, set in 100 acres, including: seven full size grass pitches; full
size floodlit all weather surface; indoor sports hall; swimming pool; tennis
courts and running track.
