Pilar Mooted For Turks & Caicos

Pilar Bush

Monday, August 9, 2004

Acting Director of Tourism Pilar Bush is on a short list of candidates to assume the newly created position of Director General of the Turks and Caicos Islands’ Tourist Board, according to sources in the tourism industry in the sister Overseas Territory.

Two independent sources verified the report, and one indicated that Ms Bush has the inside track to get the post, although Turks and Caicos Islands’ national Clifford Hamilton, who was the former Director of Tourism there, is reportedly also in the running. “I’m told it’s quite likely she’ll get the job,” said one source.

The reports also indicated that Ms Bush has acted as a tourism consultant to the Turks and Caicos.

Ms Bush resigned her position as Cayman Islands Acting Director of Tourism in April of the year, to take effect 21 May 2004. However HE the Governor Bruce Dinwiddy deferred her resignation.

Last week, it was learned that Ms Bush is expected to remain as Acting Director until a replacement is installed in her place. The Public Service Commission just began advertising the post of Director of Tourism again last Friday.

Minister of Tourism, Hon McKeeva Bush, said last week that he supported Ms Bush for the permanent Cayman Islands Director of Tourism position, however Ms Bush told Cayman Net News she was unsure if she would apply.

In an interview last Friday, Ms Bush denied any knowledge of her being in the running for the Turks post. “It’s news to me,” she said, “I don’t know anything about a post of Director General of Tourism in Turks and Caicos.”

Ms Bush also denied that she had served as a tourism consultant to the Turks and Caicos.

Pressed for her future plans in the Cayman Islands, Ms Bush indicated that she had given her word to HE the Governor to remain on as Acting Director until September.
