Though it remains breezy in Grand Cayman, as of noon Thursday the rain has
stopped, and even blue sky could be seen to the south.
For George Town, Hurricane Charley, which has now passed Grand Cayman to the
north, has been mostly a dud, bringing pleasantly cool summer temperatures in
its wake.
Residents have begun coming outside, with several people walking around in
George Town.
There have been reports of power outages in East End and North Side, however,
with Caribbean Utilities Company crews in the latter district in the past hour.
Asked about reports of docks washing away on Cayman Brac, merchant Burnard
Tibbetts said that he had driven by the south coast of the island at 7 am and
had notice no damage to any of the docks. “Rainfall is minimal, and there has
been no flooding here at all,” he said, “I have heard that the government dock
on the south cost of Little Cayman has been damaged.”
Owen Roberts International Airport remained closed; however, it could open up
as early as Thursday afternoon if the winds subside.
The law firm Walkers said it would open at 2 pm Thursday afternoon.
