This year’s George Town Community Development Annual Summer Programme was
well attended, with an average of 150 children a day attending George Town
Primary School, where the programme was based.
There was also a twin project at Bodden Town Primary School.
The event, for children aged between five and 16, cost a nominal fee $30 per
child per week, and was run by the National Housing and Community Development
Trust.
This year’s programme objectives focussed on empowering children to develop
skills through various activities such as hair-braiding, sewing, reading, sport,
drama, and music. This year they took part in a special musical called ‘Holy
Moses!’
Children were also asked to draw and write about important things in their
lives.
Programme Facilitator, Zemrie Thompson said: “The children were asked to
write a story called, ‘All About Me.’ They told about themselves, where they
were born, the goals for their life, and all the things that they like.”
In his project, 15-year old Travis Ebanks said: “If God spares my life when I
get older and out of school, I would like to become a wealthy and talented
computer technician.”
