- Yes, indeed many people are trying to pick up the pieces of their lives
after Charley, and some of these people are Caymanians who are living here
in Florida. To some people, the prospects of a hurricane may be exciting,
but that is because they are ignorant of the horrors of a Category 4
hurricane such as we had in Florida.
One of my Caymanian friends and his wife could not be reached for five days,
and we were frantic to know if they survived, because they live in one of
the two towns that were hit the hardest.
Praise God they are alive, but suffered damage to their home. God surely
answered the many prayers that were being made for those of us in harm’s
way, and no one should ever take lightly, the prospects of a hurricane. With
no phone lines, and no electricity to our homes, and extreme heat, it was
not easy.
One of my friends from Jamaica, and her husband, did not get electricity for
eight days. All their food spoiled, and it was so hot they had to sleep on
the floor. They are in their early 80's. One elderly lady spent the night
after the hurricane in her driveway with her two dogs because her home was
destroyed and she didn't know where to go. My 94 year-old friend from
Jamaica said all she was craving was a little drink of cool water.
Last night I saw a man on the hurricane aftermath report being given a
bottle of water, and he said he had not had water to drink for three days.
Some of the homes that were badly damaged have been stripped by looters
before the families were allowed to return to see their homes. So please,
don't ever make light of a hurricane. Just thank God that it wasn't you or
your loved ones that had to experience the wrath of the monster from the
deep - Naomi Oyog
- I recently visited the islands while on the Rhapsody of the Seas. Our
news in Texas didn't give any information for your area. I was so glad to
find you website and happy to know that the storm did little damage. Keep up
the good work. I really enjoyed seeing the pictures during the rain from the
storm - Lavon Brenneis
