Life... after Charley

Friday, August 20, 2004

“Charley, Charley is coming”
the name and words on the lips of Cayman for a few days
While frantically preparing for his imminent and unwelcome visit!
Though uninvited, he dropped by and disrupted our lives -
but only for a day or two,
For after mere hours of caressing our tropical shores
he left us with nothing more
Than palm trees waving goodbye
and flaming Poincianas blowing their good riddance kisses
As we all breathed a sigh of relief
that he had packed his bags and moved on,
Leaving us to pick up the pieces
and make up for lost time because,
thank God, there is
Life after Charley!
“Just wasted time getting ready for Charley”
some grumpily complained,
“Much ado about nothing” others haughtily announced,
“We’re rather disappointed that Charley missed Cayman”
many exclaimed
As others chimed in “Yes, we were looking forward to the excitement!”
True, Charley tiptoed through the Cayman Islands
as he strengthened and hurried on
To prove his might to others
who frantically prepared for his unwelcome visit,
And now are left in shock and doubting
if they can pick up the pieces of
Life after Charley!
