Man Charged With Attempted Murder
Thursday, August 26, 2004
The Royal Cayman Islands Police (RCIP) announced that Caymanian Sheldon
Marquiss Brown was formally charged in connection with the shooting at the
Cayman Islander on West Bay Road on 17 August.
The 35-year-old Brown is now being held in a cell at Grand Court.
Mr Brown was to be formally charged on Wednesday in Summary Court the
offences of Attempted Murder, Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH), Possession of an
Unlicensed Firearm and Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm with attempt to
commit an offence.
Only three weeks ago on 3 August Mr Brown had been acquitted of a previous
charge of committing an act tending and intended to pervert the course of
justice in Grand Court.
Those charges stemmed from the investigation surrounding the murder of Joseph
Alexander Williams on 12 February near Martin Drive.
James Fernando Martin, the man shot at the Cayman Islander, was the
complainant in the perversion of justice case in which Mr Brown was the
defendant.
In that case, Mr Martin claimed that Mr Brown had threatened him concerning
potential testimony in the case.
Mr Martin is currently in stable condition.
