Campaigns for Bodden Town candidates in both the United Democratic Party (UDP)
and the People’s Progressive Movement (PPM) will build momentum this week with
two public meetings.
On Tuesday night, UDP candidates Hon Gilbert McLean, Hon Roy Bodden and Mark
Scotland will hold a public meeting at the MLA’s Office next to the post office
at 8 pm.
The UDP trio has outlined several topics of discussion during their meeting,
including the Constitution, Bodden Town projects, the upcoming election and
others.
The next night PPM candidates Anthony Eden, Osbourne Bodden and Charles
Clifford will hold a public meeting at the James Manoah Bodden Civic Centre at
7:30, with guest speakers including Leader of the Opposition Hon Kurt Tibbetts,
MLA Arden McLean, and West Bay Alliance member Mario Ebanks.
Mr Tibbetts indicated on Monday that the rest of the PPM was close to kicking
off the campaign in earnest as well. “Tonight we’re having a National Council
meeting, which is the last of the process of announcing our candidates for the
election,” he said, “We will then move forward from there and get on to the
business of carrying out the campaign.”
Leader of Government Business and UDP Leader Hon McKeeva Bush said that there
was no set timetable for the launch of his campaign. “I’m not rushing to start
the campaign,” he said, “We don’t have to rush. We’re delivering on our
programmes, and people can see that.”
Mr Bush indicated it could be as late as October before he and his West Bay
colleagues really start their campaign.
Nomination Days takes place on 6 October and the election is six weeks after
that on 17 November.
