Letter to the Editor
Westin should have handled beach situation differently
Wednesday, September 1, 2004
Dear Sir,
I have not written to your paper in a long time. However, after reading
about the incident at the Westin Hotel, I feel compelled to write this letter.
This incident should not have gone as far as it did. If professional people
had treated the incident in a professional manner instead of the management
sending security guards to take care of the matter, it would have ended up in
a different way.
Nevertheless, bars and restaurants that serve food and drink to the general
public, who in turn conduct themselves properly, automatically make those
people guests of that property. They may not have spent $300 - $500 for a
room, but they are still guests of that establishment.
As I was reading the newspaper front page ‘Westin responds’, I had to smile
and say to myself: Why didn’t the management of the hotel state what happened,
instead of hiding behind lawyers who try to justify the actions of their
client by quoting the law instead of giving an honest explanation?
Too often we find persons not taking full responsibility for their own
actions and in doing so compound the problems.
In my opinion the management of the Westin Hotel should have the courtesy
to come forward and give an honest explanation of what happened that day.
Things of this nature always in the long run come back to kick you in your
face. I sign my name without fear or favour.
