- How can the Cayman Net News advocate for transparency in government
without understanding the corresponding importance of supporting human
rights initiatives for Cayman citizens? Or perhaps this is Ms. Quappe's
personal view? I believe it is misguided. Please explain-exactly what are
those rights that Cayman cannot afford its people? And how can insuring
human rights be more costly than the rising price Caymanians pay for living
in constant fear of reprisal for criticizing government policies or
practice? Wake up Cayman! Human rights cannot be measured in coin or
currency. Look around --Look to history. Many citizens of this globe have
even sacrificed their lives to protect human rights in their countries. This
is not a trivial matter - Anonymous
- Editor’s Note: Barrie Quappe is a regularly featured opinion
columnist of Cayman Net News, however her opinions do not necessarily
correspond to those of this newspaper.
- Thank you, Barrie, for voicing this concern so eloquently and
truthfully. It may fall on deaf ears, but we share your concern. All voters
and supporters of candidates for the Legislature had better do as you say,
and "be more vigilant as to what international policies our government
representatives may be signing us up for"... and be careful who we vote in -
