- A striking similarity is developing between the
election campaign in the Cayman Islands and its counterpart in the United
States. Both incumbent administrations are headed by a man named Bush, who
is widely perceived to be a bumbling incompetent, yet strong-minded and
decisive. The opposition, on the other hand, is perceived to be wildly
flip-flopping around trying to establish a firm position on any issue that
might resonate with the voters and ends up saying anything and everything
that it thinks the electorate wants to hear.
Case in point: the PPM’s “declaration” of its position on the Constitution.
Instead of saying, “This is our committed position… vote for us on the
strength of this,” the PPM tries to hedge its bets and ends up saying, “This
is our position at this time. However, this is subject to change, especially
if we find out later that our position is unpopular and we might be able to
come up with a more popular one later on.”
It’s enough to make one reach an almost inconceivable conclusion - that Bush
might actually be the lesser of two evils – Anonymous
