UDP Run-Off Next Week

Wednesday, September 8, 2004

The United Democratic Party (UDP) will hold a run-off of George Town candidates for the 2004 General Elections next Wednesday, 15 September at Town Hall, according to party official.

The party will choose four candidates to represent it in the November elections out of at least six people reportedly vying for nominations.

Included in the list of candidates is incumbent MLA and Minister of Community Services, Youth, Sport and Gender Affairs Dr the Hon Frank McField, Beulah McField, Berna Thompson-Cummins, Gary Rankin, and Pearlina McGaw.

Also reportedly seeking a nomination is attorney Lloyd Samson, and possibly a couple of other people according to a party official, who also said that a 90-percent turnout of George Town UDP members is expected at the meeting.

One person who was rumoured to be considering a UDP George Town nomination but apparently will not according to informed sources is banker Jeffrey Webb.

The four people chosen by the UDP George Town Committee will face four already picked candidates from the People’s Progressive Movement including Leader of the Opposition Kurt Tibbetts, incumbent MLA Alden McLaughlin, Lucille Seymour and Alfonso Wright.

There will also be several independents running in George Town, including Ellio Solomon and Allan Wagner.
