GENERAL ELECTION 2004

The Election Office announces political parties are now official

Thursday, September 9, 2004

The Elections Office has announced that the Elections Law (2004 Revision) now provides for Registration of Political Parties, paving the way for the UDP and the PPM in this year’s election.

The office says that any group of people who have united to contest an election is now eligible to be registered as a political party.

Application forms for registration can be obtained from the Elections Office and must be signed by the applicant who may be the president, chairman or secretary of the political party.

The application must contain the name of the political party and must be accompanied by a copy of the party’s constitution.

No political party will be allowed to register between Nomination Day 6th October and the return of the writs on 21 November.
