LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Number of casualties should be revised

Friday, October 1, 2004

Dear Sir:

I think revisions should be made as we know for certain that there were far more deaths than are being reported.

My brother lives on Grand Cayman and I spoke to him yesterday. He was very upset and disturbed. He wanted to get to East End but could not, due to roads being blocked. The police and other workers were in Bodden Town where he was stopped from going any further.

They were pulling bodies from the wreckage of houses there. He tells me the smell was horrific, but his biggest problem is the constant claim that only one or two lives were lost.

This is not sent to distress or worry anyone, but this is fact. He witnessed it for himself, and saw a lot of body bags in a mortuary van, so why are these deaths not being reported?

People out there are still frantically wanting to know if loved ones are alive or dead, and we are being told that there were only 1 or 2 deaths. Are these people going to go unidentified? Are they to be swept under the carpet? Something should be done about this.
