Post Hurricane Health Care

Friday, October 15, 2004

The Chrissie Tomlinson Memorial Hospital has implemented a new health service to address the increasing number of accidents and injuries following Hurricane Ivan.

The Urgent Care and Injury Centre is open 24 hours a day, and aims to provide quick assessment and treatment of injuries. “Following Hurricane Ivan, we have noticed a change in our patient’s health care needs,” said Hospital Administrator, Mr. David Pellow.

“There has been a marked increase in the number of accidents, which are related to the clean-up process. In response to this, we have introduced this additional service to help attend to these patients as quickly as possible”.

Doctors and nurses are also volunteering their time to offer free health clinics and health talks.

Health screening clinics will be held throughout October between 1pm-3pm in the lobby of the hospital. A series of health talks are also being offered to help inform the public about pertinent health issues. All talks are taking place in the hospital’s Physical Therapy Department, on Wednesdays from 5pm until 6pm.
