Questions from our readers
Friday, October 15, 2004
The following is a further sample of the hundreds of questions we are continuing to receive from our readers. We regret that we are unable to reply to each individually because Cayman Net News itself is operating under reduced conditions and we just do not have the resources to deal with such a high volume of enquires. We are therefore passing on these questions to the appropriate government departments and/or private sector associations and we will publish any general or specific responses from them. Readers should however bear in mind that both public and private sectors are extremely stretched at the moment and, even assuming the information requested is available in the first place, a response may not be forthcoming quickly or at all. Readers can also correspond directly to Government Information Services (GIS) by e-mail by to the Chief Information Officer at the following address as follows:

- I have been unable to reach the rental company (Cayman Villas) from whom I have rented a house on Northside for the week of Dec 19-26, 2005. I realize with the storm damage, everyone is busy repairing. Is there any suggestion as to how I can determine if we are still going to be able to visit for our vacation in December? Thanks. I have had no response from email or telephone attempts -

- Can you tell me whether St. George's Church survived? We attended in January this year when we visited the island and were warmly welcomed

- I am planning a trip to Grand Cayman early in December 2004, is this a good idea or should I postpone? I can't believe how the news media has not reported on the damage to your islands. I hope all is well with the people of Cayman and you get your lives back together as soon as possible -

- I'm going on a cruise October 30 and will be arriving into Grand Cayman Nov 3 2004 to get married at the Old Grand House. I'm worried that the Royal Caribbean Cruise line will not be able to stop at this island. Any answers?

- I read your article indicating that a National Day of Thanksgiving is scheduled for November 17. Do authorities anticipate that tourists will be allowed on Grand Cayman by this date? Thanks!
- Dan Bachmann
- If I have a place to stay and want to come to Grand Cayman to volunteer not work for money and help a school clean up is there a way for me to do this? I have a relative that works at the school but I am still not certain that I am allowed to come unless I have a work permit is that correct? I want to come on October 24 for 1 or 2 weeks just to volunteer my time. I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me if there is any way I would be allowed to stay for that amount of time. Thanks very much for your time

- I lived in Grand Cayman as a child, at Pedro Castle and went to Savannah School. I am just one person, but I have building skills, framing and finish work, electrical and plumbing. I am in the transportation business now, driving chartered tour buses around the country. I would be glad to help starting November. Can you see if it would be possible to contact my late father’s widow, Isabelle Hubbell?
- Jim Hubbel
