Questions from Our Readers
Wednesday, October 27, 2004
The following are some of the questions we are continuing
to receive from our readers. We regret that we are unable to reply to each
individually because Cayman Net News itself is still operating under reduced
conditions and we just do not have the resources to deal with such a high volume
of enquires. We are therefore passing on these questions to the appropriate
government departments and/or private sector associations and we will publish
any general or specific responses from them.
Readers should however bear in mind that both public and
private sectors are extremely stretched at the moment and, even assuming the
information requested is available in the first place, a response may not be
forthcoming quickly or at all. Readers can also correspond directly with
Government Information Services (GIS) by e-mail to the Chief Information Officer
as follows:

- Ever since hurricane Ivan has hit Grand Cayman we have been phoning from
Israel to try and contact my father’s brother, Dr. Basil Wilson-Kay who
lives on the island. We have had no luck, and I was wondering if
communication has been restored on the island. I would appreciate
information as my father is 85 and very concerned about his 81 year-old
younger brother - Andrea Sade
- Hello, I wonder if you know when the Island is going to be letting
tourists in. Thanks. By the way, I like your online paper - Denis Seyer
- We were residents in the Cayman Islands for fifteen years, so naturally
have many dear friends on Grand Cayman. Thank you very much indeed for your
coverage of Ivan, at the time of the hurricane. Yours was the only
information we could find. Even now on 24th October we still have no news of
some of our friends. It is encouraging to think how everyone is working
together to build up and sort out, but what a task! What is happening with
the education department? Will there be a National Children’s Festival of
the Arts next year? We continue to send you all our prayers and our love -
Marilyn and Tony Osborn
- My husband and I visited the island shortly before the hurricane and
fell in love with the island and the people. We are trying to locate the
Captain of the Stingray City Excursion and his photographer (a fellow
Canadian) Chance Photography. We also want to know if there is anything that
we can do to help. We can be contacted at
kasavage@adelphia.net. Thank-you
so much and may God bless you all - Kelly Savage
- I was in Grand Cayman 2 years ago for the pirate festival and had a
great time. I was reading the paper this morning in CA and saw the Grand
Cayman was hit hard by the hurricane and was wondering if you could tell me
if Colbalt Coast Resort was damaged during this awful storm. My heart goes
out to all of you. What a tragedy to such a wonderful place. Please let me
know about the resort that I stayed at if at all possible. Thank you -
Dee Hud
- What is the condition of the Grand Caymanian? We just bought a time
share there in July. Thank you - Bonnie Jean Hoffman
- Have been reading several articles. We have a timeshare and were
planning to come in December. We cannot ascertain how bad things are. Is
there food in the supermarkets? Is Indies Suites OK? We were told the
airport will be operational at the end of October. Yes? Communication is
non-existent. Could you let us have some guidelines, please? - Lorraine
Resnick
- This may be an inappropriate question on this forum but today United
Airlines called and stated that tourists are not permitted to enter the
Cayman Islands until on or after Jan. 1, 2005. Another airline said they are
still planning to resume air travel on Nov. 1. What is a frequent traveler
to the Cayman’s to believe? Can you give me any word? Thanks - Cliff
Beyler
- Will the Pirates’ Week festival still be held this year? I haven’t heard
anything from anyone that the festivities will go on as planned - Carol
Carney (former resident)
- I am a Special Education teacher, and could like to work in the Cayman
Islands. Where should send my application? - Inez Williams
