Timothy Adam
Wednesday, October 27, 2004
The Chief Executive of Cable & Wireless Cayman Ltd, Timothy Adam has dismissed claims that he was fired.
Rumours have been circulating that Mr Adam had lost his position, after an article in the local press appeared to misrepresent a senior management re-structure.
As a result Mr Adam wrote to the media clarifying the situation.
In his letter Mr. Adam explained, "In the previous structure, reporting directly to me were eight vice presidents to whom I delegated authority and responsibility for various aspects of our business. Following hurricane Ivan a fresh look had to be taken at the existing structure.
"With the full support of my superiors up the chain of command in our company, working closely with our local management team, I led the redesign of our structure to be more fit for purpose and to better match the realities of our new operating environment".
In an interview with the Cayman Net News, Mr Adam said: “Ivan acted as a catalyst to put structures in place that should have been there before. As it now stands two senior managers, namely the Chief Operating Officer, Ian Tibbetts and the Chief Regulatory and Carrier Relations Officer, Rudy Ebanks to whom I have delegated authority and responsibility for the day to day running of the business operations in the retail and wholesale respectively, are reporting directly to me.”
He noted as a result of the adjustments made, some vice-presidents are now reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer.
Mr. Adam said that he sees these changes as an opportunity for him to focus more on strategic leadership, relationship and planning to ensure the future success of the telecommunications company.
The Cayman Islands Chief Executive said he relocated to Fort Lauderdale in an effort to streamline and direct the company’s recovery efforts, just as many high profile companies doing business here did to Miami and elsewhere for a short period after hurricane Ivan along with a few senior members of staff but he is now back full time in Cayman.
Mr. Adam says he believes that one of the distinct responsibilities and greatest pleasure of any top leadership position is being able to create opportunities for people to develop and reach their full potential.
In his letter to the media he reiterated that as Chief Executive of Cable and Wireless in the Cayman Islands, “he is proud to have Caymanians of such caliber and experience like Mr Ebanks and Mr Tibbetts occupy such high rank in the company.”
