LETTER TO THE EDITOR
We should retain an annual Thanksgiving Day holiday
Friday, October 29, 2004
Dear Sir:
November 17 has already been declared a holiday in the Cayman Islands but the General Elections that were to be held on that day have been cancelled due to the destruction brought about by Hurricane Ivan.
I would like to respectfully suggest we retain the holiday and rename it Thanksgiving Day. I hope this would become an annual Holiday when we give thanks for the survival and successful recovery of these Islands from one of the greatest hurricanes in recorded history.
Since the passage of Hurricane Ivan everyone on the Island has laboured long and hard under incredibly difficult conditions. We should take a day to rest and give thanks we found the will, the strength, the resources and the friends to help us rebuild our country.
I would encourage readers, who support this idea, to get in touch with their MLAs and request November 17 be made a Public Holiday named Thanksgiving.
