A recent visit to the United States by Police Commissioner Buel Braggs has been described as fruitful, after he managed to secure vehicles and equipment for the Royal Cayman Islands Police
(RCIP).
Mr Braggs told reporters on Thursday 4 November that he was able to get ten used vehicles in good working condition and equipment for the intelligence unit along with a mobile unit, which is expected to boost the police presence around the country.
The ten vehicles he said will to be shipped to the Cayman Islands this week.
Meanwhile another ten vehicles that arrived in Grand Cayman two weeks ago, with assistance from the South Florida Crime Commission, Chief Lewis Nadel and the Hollywood Florida Police Department Chief, James Scarberry, were handed over to the police officers that would be in charge of them, during a ceremony on Friday 5 November.
Commissioner Braggs said it’s a new practice giving vehicles to police officers as though they are their own but has its advantages.
“These policemen live in communities, and the more police presence we have in the community the more secure the people will feel, since police officers are always on duty and all the cars are marked (RCIPS).”
Commenting on the donation Commissioner Braggs stated: “The RCIPS is very grateful for this generous donation and I would like to thank Mr. Nadel and Mr. Scarberry for their assistance in securing these vehicles.”
