Immigration Issues
There are a number of applications for the grant, renewal or amendment of work permits that were submitted prior to the hurricane that have not yet been processed. Applicants are requested to withdraw any application that is no longer required as soon as possible.
Persons who had previously submitted an application for a Trade & Business license should advise whether they wish to proceed with their application. With respect to companies with Business Staffing Plans who have had to lay off employees, there may be a need to have their Business Staffing Plan adjusted to reflect their new needs.
Employers are reminded that where an employee has a valid work permit for a particular employer, and he or she cease to be employed by that employer, the latter must give written notice of the termination of employment forthwith to the Chief Immigration Officer. If employers fail to do so, they are guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to a fine of CI$5,000.

British passports and the US
As of 27 October 2004, all British Citizen passport holders wishing to travel to the US, including as transit passengers, must either hold a machine-readable passport or the relevant machine-readable US visa. If not, they will not be allowed to board their flight. There are no exceptions to this requirement, which has been imposed by the US Government. Non-machine readable passports are still valid for travel on any route that does not transit the US. Any British Citizen resident in the Cayman Islands who does not hold a machine-readable passport is advised to apply for a replacement through the Cayman Islands Passport Office as soon as possible. Cayman Islands passport holders are not affected by this change and may continue to travel to the US using a waiver in their valid Cayman Islands passport.
