Calendar raises first $30,000 for recovery

David and Melissa Wolfe of David Wolfe Photography
present two cheques for $15,000 each to H.E the
Governor, representing the Cayman Islands National
Recovery fund, and the Rotary Clubs of the Cayman
Islands Hurricane Relief fund

Friday,  December 3, 2004

Melissa Wolfe and her husband, David, both representing David Woolfe Photography, presented two cheques for $15,000 each to H E The Governor, Bruce Dinwiddy, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund, and to Ray Whittaker, who was representing the Rotary Clubs of the Cayman Islands Hurricane Relief Fund.

The presentation took place on Wednesday 1 December at the Glass House, in George Town

The funds were raised from the sale of a calendar, which David Woolfe produced. The calendar, which costs CI$10, shows a variety of beautiful and unspoilt Cayman Islands landscapes. On each page a series of inset photos depict other aspects of local landscapes, including some where the landscapes have clearly been changed in some way by Hurricane Ivan.

At first, it appears that the photographs represent a pre- and post-Ivan contrast, but interestingly, both sets of photos have been taken since Hurricane Ivan.

Melissa Wolfe said: “I wanted to raise some funds to help after Hurricane Ivan struck. My husband, David, is a photographer. I decided that the ideal thing would be to produce a fund-raising calendar.”

The funds that were presented have been raised from the internet sales of the calendar, which is available from www.ivan.ky. Now that the Calendar has gone to print, it will also be available from retail outlets such as Hobbies and Books in George Town.

David and Melissa Wolfe hope to raise a total of CI$100,000 from the sale of the Calendars, which will be divided between the National Fund of the Cayman Islands and the Rotary Clubs of the Cayman Islands Hurricane Relief fund.

The presentation took place on Wednesday 1 December at the Glass House, in George Town.
