Leo’s cleanup efforts at public beach

December for an early morning cleanup

A long held Cayman tradition is spending time with family on holidays and weekends at the Seven Mile Public Beach. But cruise ship visitors and stay over tourists alike also enjoy soaking up the sun’s rays or swimming in the ocean when they visit one of the Cayman Island’s gems.
Since the devastation of Hurricane Ivan Seven Mile Public Beach had lost its beach cabanas and the two that had managed to cling on in the face of Ivan, were finally removed last week in the interest of public safety.
The Leo Club of Grand Cayman is the official sponsor for public beach and has tremendous plans for the reconstruction in 2005, but for right now the membership is trying to get the beach in a safe condition.
There are still three very large mounds of sand that will be removed by Cayman Islands Government however the service club is urging the public to exercise caution while on the beach especially with young children playing in the sand.
The Club is working very hard to get the beach levelled and cleaned up for the Holidays and Leo Club members are asking the public when they are on the beach to please use the trash receptacles provided to avoid additional littering.
The Club is also looking for more helping hands too so anyone wishing to pitch in and help can sign up by contacting the Leo Club of Grand Cayman on 916.8292 and help the members keep up their motto of “Leo Club of Grand Cayman - We Serve Too!”
