Afternoon delight at St Ignatius Catholic

The Concert Band (one of groups that performed at
Sunday’s concert)

Wednesday,  December 15, 2004

Music filled the air at St Ignatius High School’s Arts Centre on Sunday 12 December when pupils delighted the audience with a musical concert.

With only a short time to prepare for the event, JoAnne Comisso, St Ignatius High School’s Head of Music said: “We decided to make a special point of producing the event to ensure that we were back to normal after Ivan.”

The concert was spilt into three separate sections. The band kicked off the afternoon’s entertainment with some Christmas numbers, followed by a rendition of Holst’s Jupiter from the Planet Suite.

After an uplifting flamenco, Spanish Rose, it was the turn of A-level student, Arek Nicholson, who performed three alto sax pieces and two vocal pieces, entitled ‘Adela’ (a Spanish piece) and a spiritual number called ‘Let us break bread together’.

The choir then gave a wonderful Christmas medley to a full house of appreciative parents, parishioners and others who enjoyed the performance immensely. School pupils then served tea, to round off a perfectly enjoyable afternoon.
