- PPM wants inquiry
I welcome the PPM’s call for a Commission of Inquiry. The Auditor General was quite clear with his concern that his inquiry would not cover all the bases that need to be covered. I also welcome Charles Clifford’s presence in the PPM. The party can now move forward to the May Elections confident that they have a strong team that can be victorious. Go PPM go! -

- PPM wants inquiry
I am thankful that Kurt, Alden, and the PPM are calling for an inquiry into this bodacious piece of fancy footwork to skim 10.7 million from the people of the Cayman Islands. The PPM are not the only ones calling for this inquiry, which MUST find out what and who is at the bottom of this atrocity. To depend on the present Public Accounts Committee to carry out an investigation is tantamount to putting the rat to guard the cheese. Where is all this money coming from that the UDP is lavishly spending, and into whose pockets is it going? The people of the Cayman Islands are calling for truthful answers, not fancy footwork to cover the dirt tracks. -

- Cruise ships return to Grand Cayman on November 1
Royal Caribbean’s Rhapsody of the Seas was scheduled to visit Grand Cayman on 12/9. We were informed then we would not make this stop because of Hurricane Ivan damage. True or false? Thank you. -

- US dive company helps East End mother
Thanks for the article, and thanks for sharing it. Gypsy Divers deserves the praise for putting this all together and their continued support of the Cayman Islands. It is dive shops like theirs that help Cayman to keep tourists and divers visiting here year after year. -

- US dive company helps East End mother
Good on Gypsy Divers and Nat Robb! I am so glad that they could help, and so proud of them for making the effort. If we all help each other, this world will be a better place. And yes, I am a proud mother. -

- Beach Encroachment
I wanted to bring the following to the attention of the Net News. My husband and I have been visiting a lovely stretch of beach just east of Cemetery Reef, on Seven Mile Beach. Since the hurricane this has been a haven for de-stressing and recharging, as you can imagine. It’s nice to see the clean up and natural restoration. Of course, with that restoration comes the condo project’s re-building.
In particular the folks at Drifters Cove are busy getting ready for the return of residents and tourists. Yesterday, they had planted the posts in the sand for their “new fence”. These posts extend a full 25 feet onto the beach past their natural vegetation line. They already do have a plot of beach sand to the side of their pool area which is huge.
It seems to me that this encroachment on the public beach, which belongs to all the people, is absolutely unnecessary. They do have a sign posted by the steps leading to their pool area stating that this is private property. Fine, but the beach in front of their property is certainly not private.
Perhaps this would be a story of interest. Also, I’m wondering which department of the government would be responsible for looking into this.
Also, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you for your excellent commitment to the keeping the people of Cayman and the World informed! You truly have risen like a phoenix from the ashes! I
applaud you. - Lena
- Fire at the dumpsite now under control
I was a fireman in the Cayman Islands for 27 years. I am retired. I have been to hundreds of dump fires. My chief says that fire is burning from under the garbage and it is very hard to out. The whole area will have to be flooded and smoke will be coming up from all areas. The firefighters have plenty work and they have to be very fit to drag those heavy hoses. -

- Caymanian Construction Workers In High Demand
I wanted to see if Cayman will still need experienced construction people after January 1st 2005? I’ve done many different trades, though most of my time has been in industrial plumbing/pipefitting and welding.
I’m sure that you have plenty of people to run jobs but I’ve been a supervisor over crews in my previous jobs too. Let me know if there is someone that can put me to work and what their needs are. I have a resume that I can send in anyway. I’m sure that I would be an asset to whomever I’m helping. I have no ties to keep me anywhere so I’m free anytime I’m needed, 24/7. Thank you. -

- AIDS statistics in the Cayman Islands
Just a small correction. There is no such thing as “Full Blown AIDS”. AIDS is AIDS is AIDS. One day you can be healthy and the next very sick. AIDS is based on your t-cell count and more importantly, persons usually die from the opportunistic infections that are associated with HIV/AIDS. -
