It wouldn’t be Christmas on Cayman Brac without the Primary Schools’ Christmas show.

The result of many hours of hard work and practice by children from both primary schools on the Island and Primary Music Teacher Jocelyn Moss, with help from teachers, parents and members of the community, the event is as much part of the season as the arrival of Santa.

With the amalgamation of Spot Bay and Creek primaries into a single school a few years ago, the event became a single production rather than three separate shows by these two schools and West End Primary.
Education Officer for the Sister Islands, Mexi Ann Grant, believes that an event like the Christmas show gives primary children from both ends of the Island an opportunity to work together.

“It provides a jump start on learning to get along with each other in the high school and on into their adult lives. We all live in the same community; we’re all one,” she said.

Younger children from the West End Primary and students from the Creek Infant School performed in a nativity musical, “The Gigantic Star”. Children from the Spot Bay Junior School and West End’s older year groups performed in “Stable Story, Christmas Glory.” Not a single glitch or a missed cue marred polished performances in both productions.
West End Steel Pan group opened the show with Christmas Carols Caribbean style, demonstrating skills learned from Years 5 and 6 Teacher, Mr. Earl Alexander.

As Ms. Moss pointed out as she introduced a special dance performance, there have been a few good things to result from Hurricane Ivan.

High School students Paige Walton and Janelle Tibbetts, who lived on Cayman Brac temporarily after the storm, took the opportunity to share their dancing skills with the children on this Island.

Some of their younger students, with huge smiles and a joyous dance to “All I want for Christmas”, performed with Paige and Janelle to a very appreciative Brac audience.
