Friday,  December 24, 2004

Starting on Boxing Day night (26 December) Cayman’s latest radio station, Spin 94.9 FM will be hosting a series of parties and events to introduce everyone to the Island’s latest dance music station.

The team from Spin 94.9 have put together more than a week’s worth of entertainment for their potential listeners across some of Grand Cayman’s favourite venues.

‘Mastermind’ in conjunction with Cable & Wireless and Oneworld Promotions, on New Year’s Eve will mark the station’s official launch with top-notch celebrations on Fort Street. A 20-foot video screen will show the celebrations in New York’s Time Square and DJ’s Vinyl Richie, MC Lady Precise and Alexi will be hosting the show here in Cayman.

Local artists Notch and Blackface will also be there and an extravagant roof top fireworks display will cap off the New Year’s Event.

The series of events are all focused towards launching Spin 94.9 FM, which is described by Monster Media’s Managing Director Kenny Rankin as “the first station in Cayman that’s truly about music.”

Describing the new station Mr Rankin added: “What makes us a dance music station is the level of energy that we will maintain. The music itself crosses into so many genres which is why this electrifying combination of North American, Caribbean and popular music makes so much sense. It’s going to be quite a thing to watch.”

Spin’s line up of DJs will be headed by Craig Urchyshyn of Oneworld Promotions, a well-known fixture in the entertainment business who goes by the moniker of DJ Downpresser. His company has joined forces with Monster Media to plan the radio station’s launch events.

“It is about time that radio in Cayman is taken to another level,” said Mr Urchyshyn. “Spin 94.9 will bring together Cayman’s freshest musical talent from edgy, up-and-coming ‘turn tablists’, to well known DJs from Cayman’s hottest nightspots.”
