Boston was covered with three inches of snow when Cayman Airways’ new 737 jet adorned with SpongeBob SquarePants touched down on Logan International Airport’s runway as part of the inaugural flight of the new direct non-stop service from Boston to Grand Cayman.
In celebration of Cayman Airways’ new direct service, members of the Ministry of Tourism, Department of Tourism and representatives from Cayman Airways were in Boston last weekend hosting various events to promote the destination and support the four-hour flight.
The Leader of Government, the Hon McKeeva Bush, Cayman Airways CEO, Mike Adam and Cayman Airways Chairman of the Board, Roy McTaggart greeted guests and spoke at the ribbon cutting ceremony, which officially declared the new gate open.
“The New England area has consistently proven to be an important market for the Cayman Islands, and we’re very excited about Cayman Airway’s new direct service. The Cayman Islands offers a great quick vacation option for New Englanders to escape the cold this winter and we’re looking forward to welcoming new guests to our shores,” said Hon McKeeva Bush.
Exemplifying Cayman’s new heightened relationship with this vital market, the Department of Tourism hosted an evening of cocktails at the Hampshire House in Boston for key New England partners, wholesalers and media. Also part of the weekend festivities, a special Sea School programme with SpongeBob SquarePants was held on Saturday 18 December at the Boston Public Library.
