  • Cayman Brac damage
What is the real story of damage? Anyone without financial interests who can say what the hotels/ island/ diving is like now? I loved the Carib Sands deck over the ocean but now it is gone, any other news? It feels like tourist blackout to avoid people making other plans, I just want the real scoop before spending $5,000 for a trip. Thanks. - Linda

  • Post Office
Could you provide any information as to when the Seven Mile Beach Post Office and the Philatelic Bureau will be operational? Thank you. - Eric W. Todd

  • Fidelity Insurance settles post-Ivan claims
I will take out my next policy with Fidelity! Cheers! What are the others doing? It looks like zilch! Let’s hear from them. I think that they bit off a little more than they can chew! - Tired of waiting

  • Earthquake strikes Cayman
After seeing the article about the earthquake, I was wondering when was the last time an earthquake was recorded in Grand Cayman before these last two. - Bishop Gene Lilly

  • Seismograph to record earthquakes
It is commendable that Government has acquired a seismograph unit albeit temporarily, and that plans are afoot to install a permanent unit with others placed throughout the islands. It is understood that the Cayman Islands itself were created by earthquakes/volcanic eruptions being part of an underwater mountain chain. It is also understood that we are in Seismic Zone 4 - one of the higher prone earthquake areas, and perhaps such a decision was long overdue, but better late than never.
By locating the seismograph equipment within the MRCU unit, there should be an abundance of scientific expertise available to operate and support such a unit and credibility should not be an issue.
What is of concern, however, is that there seems to be many related areas of Natural/Earth Science spread out around Government and its Authorities with no obvious central policy coordination, but appear to be little empires unto themselves.
Is it not timely given the dispute that has arisen with the wind speed or category of hurricane that recently devastated Grand Cayman aka Ivan the Terrible, whereby there were various layman reports of 200+ mph and the National Weather Service saying 140+ mph, that Government centralises its Natural/Earth Science policy coordination and operations?
Should not the Cayman Islands learn from Ivan by doing the necessary streamlining of government departments and keeping such relevant expertise is common areas?
My humble opinion is that we cannot afford another natural disaster where we were under-prepared to start with, and to compound it do no appear to have accurate and consistent scientific information. - Concerned Resident

  • Cash, car, child went missing
If the RCIP are able to find out who stole this car, the culprits should be charged with attempting to kidnap a child. That child could have died from the heat, had they not found the car and the little boy right away. I hope this will be a lesson to people not to leave their children in a car, even for a moment. In the U.S. there are reports all the time of children dying from the extreme heat when left in cars... under NO circumstances should a child be left alone in a car... and to leave the car running and the keys in the ignition, is asking for trouble. Let us try to be in less of a hurry, and more vigilant in order to protect our children and our property. - Caymanian Grandmother

  • Earthquake Information?
I was outside when the earthquake hit. When the shaking stopped I went inside and immediately turned on the radio. Joel was already reporting from Radio Cayman on the quake and continued to do so for several hours afterwards. Well done again Radio Cayman. Megan maybe you tuned in too late. - Sue
