Co-authors of the book Spirit of Cayman – the Aftermath of Ivan, Karie Bergstrom and Mrs Sheree Ebanks, recently presented HE the Governor, Bruce Dinwiddy with a donation of $10,000 for the Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund (NRF). The donation is a proportion of the proceeds from the book, which features photographs and stories from the aftermath of the hurricane.

“Right after the storm we knew there was a very important story that needed to be told and we wanted to do something that we could give to our children and grandchildren,” Mrs. Bergstrom said as she explain how ‘Spirit of Cayman’ was born.

“We didn’t want to focus a lot on the pain and devastation caused, but on the spirit that was born out of it.”

“We were especially inspired by one lady,” continued Mrs. Bergstrom, “Miss Nell from Breakers, who is featured in the book. She considered herself lucky even though her entire house was devastated.”

The book is available from most retail outlets including Foster’s Food Fair, Kirks Supermarket and Home Store, Book Nook and Hobbies and Books.

The Governor, who was also presented with a copy, is the Chairman of the NRF’s Board of Trustees.

The Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund is a joint initiative by Government, the Opposition and the private sector, to raise and accept donations for post-Ivan relief and reconstruction.
