LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Net News Lead Story Criticised
Friday, December 31 , 2004
Dear Sir:
I am appalled at the front cover of the Cayman Net News today. It is enough that the people of the Cayman Islands have to deal with the aftermath of Ivan, and also feel helpless for those poor souls affected by the latest tragic Tsunami, but does this newspaper believe that by publishing such ‘Nostrodamus’ rubbish that they will sell more papers?
Today in the supermarket, among other disgraced customers who commented on the cover story, I thought I was reading a cheap US rag.
I read an article in another newspaper, which I commend for its dedication to bringing news to the people which is important, news-worthy and useful.
Recently they printed an article about the affects of these tragic events on our children, did you not read it? If the newspaper had read the story, maybe they would refrain from printing such reports.
We don't need to hear your predictions or read your propaganda. Print something we WANT to hope for.
Disgusted,
Joan Smitts
Editor’s note: We have addressed these issues fully in today’s editorial, except perhaps to note that the story in question was based on an article published by a well-respected international news organisation, which in turn was based upon scientific research and data. As such, it does not qualify as our “predictions” or “propaganda.”
