Tsunami spares US base in Diego Garcia
Wednesday, January 12 , 2004
Dear Sir:
As the debate continues in your paper as to the potential tsunami threat to Cayman I thought you would find the item on MSNBC of interest.
To place in context, it demonstrates that small islands such as Diego Garcia (and by analogy Cayman), which do not have gently sloping continental shelves and are surrounded by barrier reefs, are unlikely to be severely affected by tsunamis even in the unlikely event that they are hit.
