CI Seafarers Association
The Cayman Islands Seafarers Association will be holding their monthly meeting on Tuesday 18 January at 7:30 pm in the new ‘Seafarers’ Hall’ , 11 Victory Avenue, Prospect across from Stingray Brewery.
National Gallery seeking artists
The Cayman Islands’ National Gallery is seeking painters, ceramicists, sculptors and craftspeople, working in any medium to display their work at Art@Governors, Cayman’s largest visual arts’ festival, which will take place at Government House on 29 January. The deadline is 21 January and any interested artists should contact the National Gallery at 945 8111.
Art Flix
The National Gallery’s complimentary art history lecture series continues on Wednesday 19 January at 5:30pm with a feature on Donatello one of the world’s greatest sculptors. For more information call 945 8111
Cayman Outreach Association

CUC West Shore Office opens
Following a four-month, post-Ivan closure, our Cash Office/Customer Service Department at the West Shore Centre reopens Monday, 17 January, from 8:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday and from 8:30am to 12 noon on Saturdays. Customers may also make bill payments at all district post offices, Foster’s Food Fair supermarkets, all banks, through direct debit or at the Company’s North Sound Road office.
Department of Agriculture
Customers of the Department of Agriculture are being asked to call 925-5764 or fax 947-6501 until further notice as the department is having difficulties with its telephone lines in the office in Lower Valley. The after hours livestock emergency number remains 916-2218.
National Heroes’ Day 24 January
Monday 24 January is National Heroes’ Day, normally observed on the fourth Monday in January. However, some people have incorrectly assumed the holiday will be on 31 January, the last Monday of the month.
No fishing in grouper areas
The Marine Conservation Board is reminding the public that designated grouper spawning areas are closed to fishing. The prohibition includes setting a fish trap in these areas or within a one-mile radius of a designated grouper spawning area. District Workgroups
The Cayman Islands Recovery Operations is seeking contractors/ individuals interested in joining the District Workgroup scheme currently being developed. Workgroups of four to five persons, comprising of both skilled and semi-skilled labourers, will be put together to carry out repairs to damaged homes throughout the districts. Interested contractors/ individuals should contact Samuel Rose 244-2206 or Christina Rowlandson 244-2201 in the Cabinet Office no later than Wednesday, 19 January.
Al Anon Group Meeting
George Town, Grand Cayman Chapter meets every Tuesday at 8pm at Elmslie Memorial Church in the classroom. If someone in your life is drinking and it is negatively affecting your life and relationship, you are welcome to join us.

UCI Registration
Registration is now taking place for all Bachelor’s Degree, Associate Degree, and Professional programmes, as well as Continuing Education courses at The University College of the Cayman Islands. If you have not yet registered for courses in the spring semester, you should do so now. New student applications for all programmes will also be considered. Old Timey Missionary Baptist Church
Everyone is invited to the regular Sunday morning worship which is now taking place at an old/new Church, the Old Timey Missionary Baptist Church, Jamaica & Cayman Islands, on North Sound Road. Firearms Owners
Legal owners of firearms have until Monday 31 January to renew their licences for this year. Renewal fees should be paid at the Licensing Department and owners should hold on to receipts until the RCIPS’ firearms’ licensing system is up and running. For more info contact 949 4222 x 2902.
Traffic Appeal
RCIPs’ officers are searching for a black or dark blue Jeep involved in an accident on 31 December at the junction of Shamrock Road and Victory Avenue. Anybody with any information is asked to contact Police Constable Melville on 949 4222 or to call Crime Stoppers on 800 TIPS (8477).
George Town Public Library
People are encouraged to visit the Library in George Town at its new location in the Commerce building in the same street as Corita’s Restaurant opposite The Village. The library is located in Unit #1 on the ground floor next to Changes Beauty Salon. Opening hours 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. People are requested to return all books, even damaged ones, taken out before Hurricane Ivan. If books have been lost, this should be reported too, in order for library staff to take accurate stock for the records. The public can bring the books to the new George Town location or at the normal book drop at the old location across from Heroes’ Square. The public library at East End is also open to the public, while the libraries at Bodden Town and North Side remain closed until further notice. For information call 949-5159.
Cayman Ministers’ Association
The January quarterly meeting and election of officers for 2005, of the Cayman Ministers’ Association will be held on 12 January, 10 am at the Agape Family Worship Centre. All Pastors are urged to attend.

Cayman Islands Humane Society
The Animal Shelter, re-opened on 4 January, has cats, kittens, dogs and puppies that need a loving home and welcomes everyone to come and have a look at the animals that need adopting.

Lions Club Update
The dates for Breast Cancer Awareness’ month activities, which were postponed in October, will take place in February. Dress Down Day will take place on Friday 11 February and The Brenda Tibbetts-Lund Fundraising Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday 12 February.
