Marie shows off handbags for sale

Salon Salon & Supply, offers full nail services, as well as body waxing treatments, making Marie Myers an aesthetician as well as an entrepreneur.

From her well-appointed, cozy environment Ms Myers explained, “Some of my clients are men and they usually don’t like to be seen while being treated. Even the women like the privacy that this salon affords them,” Ms Myers said.

As a rule, Ms Myers attends to clients personally. “I do this because my customers require my personal attention and I believe that clients regard this area of their lives as private, to some extent,” she explained.

Another arm of her business is the retail of nail and other personal care products such as lipsticks and face powder - attractively displayed at the front of the parlour. “Customers are more attune to obtaining these supplies where they can be properly advised on the products and have the time to purchase,” Ms Myers said.

Yet another component of the salon’s operations is the sale of accessories – an unusual selection of handbags and casual jewellery.

“Most of the expansion into accessories and products was done after the passage of Ivan,” she explained. 

During the years 2000 to 2004 Ms Myers built her reputation in the field when she served clients through Nails Express, located upstairs 90A Godfrey Nixon Way.

With the move downstairs in the same location after Ivan, Nails Express underwent a change of name and expansion of the business as part of the way forward.

Her foundation years in the field started with her training at the Rose Leon School of Beauty, where she enrolled right after High School.

Sound experience was gained while she worked for two years after that at a salon in Jamaica before arriving in Cayman and spending the next ten years with her former employer at Di’s Nails & Supplies. 

For now, her secret to good business is sticking to the personal, high quality approach. Over the years Ms. Myers relied on her cash flow to run or expand the operation. Because of this approach, my business demands determination.

Ms Myers is looking forward to opening up the Hair Dressing arm of the salon for which facilities are already in place.
