
Road accident claims life of RCIPS officer

A member of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) has died following an accident involving a Jeep Wrangler and a Cavalier on Monday 17 January, which took place at the Shedden Road junction.
According to the RCIPS, 31 year old Police Constable Niven Dixon was in his uniform on his way to work at the Central Police Station in George Town when the accident occurred.
The RCIPS stated that the Emergency Communications Centre received a report of the accident at 7:27 am and traffic officers and paramedics were dispatched to the scene, where PC Dixon had sustained serious head injuries. He was taken to the hospital but later pronounced dead.
PC Dixon joined the RCIPS in 1999 where he worked in the Uniform Department, the Drugs Task Force and the K-9 Unit.
Commenting on the incident, Commissioner of Police Buel Braggs stated, “The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service is deeply saddened by the loss of such a young officer and our condolences go out to his family.”
The circumstances surrounding the fatal accident are now under investigation.
