Friday,  January 21, 2005

The Cayman Cowboy, Cayman Brac’s own Andy Martin, will be just one of the entertainers at the third annual Sister Islands Agriculture Show (SIAS) on Saturday 5 February.

This event has proved to be enormously popular in its first two years and SIAS Committee Chairman, Mark Tibbetts said it has become the event of the year on the Cayman Brac.

Cayman Airways Jet Service has added an extra flight to Cayman Brac the day of the SIAS, leaving Grand Cayman at 6.00am, with a return flight leaving at 5.00pm that night. There is also a flight leaving Cayman Brac at 3:30pm that same day and arriving Grand Cayman at 4:00pm.

The show will start at the Agriculture Grounds in Spot Bay at 7 am and breakfast will be served until 10.00am, say organizers. Competition categories will include hot sauce, paintings, preserves, produce and crafts. There will be displays and competitions for farm and domestic animals and exhibitions of hydroponics farming, preserves, antiques, plants and crafts.

A number of booths will be selling local dishes, local crafts, ceramics, plants, paintings, cotton candy, fruits, souvenirs, preserves, birds, games, produce and lots more, say organizers. Police and Fire Services will be giving demonstrations and there will be entertainment throughout the day.

The raffle winner will take home US$1,000 and there will be many other great prizes, such as return airline tickets, said Mr Tibbetts. Raffle tickets are $10 each and this includes the $5 entrance fee. Official opening by Agricultural Minister will be at 10.00am.

“To all of our supporters for this show from Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, Little Cayman and visitors to our Islands, I think it fair to say 2004 had its share of stress for us all. Therefore, the time and the place is right for us to take this day to try to unwind a bit, while having some good family fun together as one united group of individuals supporting our Island Heritage,” Mr Tibbetts said.

“We look forward once more for entire families to come out that day to the show and have an opportunity to socialize with friends and other family members and also meet new faces for a time of relaxation. I look forward to seeing everyone at our show,” he added.
