Focus on protection and prevention

Dr Howard Deosaran, OB/GYN
Friday, January 21, 2005
The Women’s Resource Centre will be playing host to specialist gynaecologist and obstetrician this week when Dr Howard Deosaran, OB/GYN presents the Birth Control Contraceptive Session.
The available contraception options as well as misconceptions, the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, and other contraceptive-related questions will be covered at the session, which is sponsored by the Women’s Resource Centre on Thursday, 20 January.
“Not every contraception method is right for every woman,” said Dr Deosaran.
“This session will clear up some misconceptions on contraceptive methods such as the coil, pill, injectable contraception, rhythm condoms, and permanent contraception such as tubal ligation.”
Dr Deosaran added, “It is not just about how to prevent pregnancy, but how to prevent HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.”
Talking about the forth coming session, Tammy Ebanks Bishop, Programme Manager at the Women’s Resource Centre said: “It is important for women to have educational opportunities such as these so that they are empowered to make informed decisions about their health and reproductive well being.
“It is also a good opportunity for women, who may not feel comfortable discussing these issues one-on-one with a physician, to have a supportive environment in which they can ask lots of questions about contraceptives or other health related matters.”
Additionally, the advantages and disadvantages of various types of contraception will be discussed. Dr Deosaran, an obstetrician-gynaecologist in Grand Cayman, will be facilitating the Birth Control Contraceptive Session.
This seminar is part of a monthly women’s health information session at the Women’s Resource Centre. Men and women are invited to attend.
The Birth Control Contraceptive Session will be held at the Women's Resource Centre in Elizabethan Square, Thursday, 20 January, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. There is no cost to the public. To register for the information session, contact Tammy Ebanks-Bishop at 949-0006 or by email:
