Friday, January 21, 2005
The Youth Services Coordinator of the Cayman Islands, James Myles, will be attending a meeting on Occupational Standards for Youth in Development Workers on the Caribbean Island of Barbados, between 24-29 January.
The meeting is organised by the Caribbean Commonwealth Youth Programme and the Caricom Secretariat.
The aim of the meeting, Mr Myles, said is to finalise the draft occupational standard for youth in development workers and to establish international labour remuneration scales.
According to Mr Myles: “It’s a long time that the Caribbean Youth Programme has been working on that project and as a result it was able to achieve tertiary level education via the University of the West Indies and University of Guyana.”
“There is a certificate as well as a diploma program in youth work which will be used as the framework for occupational standards,” he added.
The code of conduct for youth workers and coaches will also be discussed and Mr Myles will be presenting a Cayman Islands perspective on this issue. “We are ahead as far as this code of conduct is concerned; it is already in existence here so I am going to share our experience.
