Law requires full and accurate disclosure of candidates’ finances
Wednesday, March 16, 2005
In order to ensure that persons vying for public office are not receiving money from interests or sources that may influence his or her actions, speeches or votes in the Legislative Assembly, they are required to disclose their financial interests on the Registration Form for Declaration of Interests.
A person who has made a declaration of finances on the date of acceptance of nomination as an election candidate is not required, if elected, to make a further declaration on the date that an oath of allegiance is made.
However, if that person subsequently acquires a beneficial interest in property that is additional to that referred to in his or her declaration, a further declaration of interests is required to be made within 28 days of the acquisition.
Declaration forms are available at the Legislative Assembly Building, Fort George Street, George Town.
The forms should be submitted to the Office of the Clerk at the Legislative Assembly by Nomination Day, 16 March.
