The Cayman Brac Cricket Club (CBCC) started this year’s cricket Divisional Two Cricket Competition on a winning note by comfortably defeating the Caledonian Bank Cricket Club by 6 wickets on Saturday 12 March at the Cayman Brac High school grounds.

The CBCC, after its worst season last year, looked a far better team in this match after several months of intense training. “The goal of the club this year is to win the competition,” said Club President Ashton Ferguson.

Caledonian bank batted first after winning the toss. They scored 167 all out off 38.1 overs. Their main contributors were Ali Mudeen with a score of 57, P. Devere, 46, and Robin Harding. The main bowlers for the Brac were Phillip Rottigon, who had figures of 3 wickets for 12 runs off 3 overs, which included 2 maidens. Robert Levy took two wickets for 16 runs off 7.1 overs and Sahadeo Sohan had 2 wickets for 27 runs from 8 overs. The CBCC easily reached their target by scoring 168 runs for 4 wickets off only 28.1 overs.

Hetran “Rambo” Sohan and his brother, Sahadeo “Chanserpaul” Sohan scored the most runs, 69 and 49 respectively. Wayne Taylor also contributed a lightening 33.

CBCC Captain James Reid said the players played well as a team. He felt that, right now, the Brac team is the best in the division, and both morale and commitment is high

“We can take on any team in Grand Cayman,” he said. In order to take part in the competition, the team must pay for two trips to Grand Cayman to play back to back matches on a Saturday and Sunday. Each trip costs about $2,000 to $3,000 and the team intends to hold fundraisers to pay for this.

Fergusen said, “We would like to express our thanks to the owner of TC Beauty Salon, Carlyle Nation, who kindly sponsored the cricket shirts for the club, and to the general public. Who come out to watch the training, particularly on Sundays.”
