Moving and shaking at Water Authority

Wilda Welcome-Connor

Monday, March 21, 2005

After some recent restructuring, the Water Authority has promoted Wilda Welcome-Connor, earlier this month, to the post of Assistant Secretary to the Board/Corporate Communications Officer.

The primary focus of the position is to provide administrative support for the Water Authority Board and to coordinate PR and marketing initiatives for the Authority.

Formerly most PR activities were handled by the Customer Service Department; however, the Authority recognised the need of having a designated employee to address the PR and marketing needs of an ever-growing water utility.

Accepting the challenges with a smile, Mrs Welcome-Connor said: “I am delighted with the decision to promote me to fill this niche area for the Water Authority. I am very grateful to the Director for her confidence in my abilities and I look forward to meeting the new challenges of my substantive post.”

Chief, Dr Gelia Frederick-van Genderen, was equally as excited about the decision to create the position.

“The Water Authority is a leader of its class in the entire region. We provide a variety of career and training opportunities,” said Dr Genderen. We take deep pride in supporting our local community, and we want our customers and our fellow Caymanians to know about us. We have every confidence that Wilda will provide an excellent service in effectively communicating the Water Authority and its services to the public and in liaising with the various media houses.”

The Director noted that Mrs Welcome-Connor was chosen because of her natural abilities, her high level of professionalism, her willingness to take on new opportunities and her creativity.

Mrs. Welcome-Connor has been employed with the Water Authority since September 2002. Prior to her new appointment, she served as the Executive Secretary and as the Secretary to the Plumbers’ Examination Board.
