Cayman Brac’s annual dose of determination, competition and fun was provided by the 2005 Sister Islands Primary Schools’ Sports Day, which took place on 21 and 22 March at the Cayman Brac High School.

For the second year, the first session of Sports Day, which included most of the track events, was held Monday evening 21 March, allowing a large crowd of parents, guardians and friends to watch and cheer their children to the finish line after work.

The second session the following morning was almost as well attended, with the crowd added to during breaks and lunchtime by the Brac High School students, who came out to support the younger children.

Sports Day was a great success, according to Brac PE Teacher Flynn Bush.

“There are still a few things we need to iron out. The track is just loose gravel and not safe and the field is uneven and unable to grow grass sufficiently,” he said.

“The athletes all performed admirably, despite the conditions. Their further progress would be enhanced by these upgrades,” added Mr Bush.

The combined school of Creek Juniors and Spot Bay Infants earned the Champion School trophy with 688 points, with West End coming a close second with 615 points. All five students from the Little Cayman School came over for the day and scored a valiant overall 43 points.

Danique Bailey was Junior Champion Girl and Stefon Scott Junior Champion Boy. In the Senior Division, Nicholas Scott was Champion Boy, with a tie for the girls between Shenelle Frederick and Kiristen Scott.
