
Education and arts receive donations

The recent gala dinner organised by the Cayman Islands London office held at the House of Commons has already brought in some generous donations for the Cayman Islands and last week Jennifer Dilbert, the Government’s representative in London was able to hand out some cheques to various Government departments and organisations during her visit to Cayman.
Minister of Education the Hon Roy Bodden received $37,500 on behalf of the education system, while representatives from the National Gallery, the Cayman National Cultural Foundation (CNCF) and the National Museum were on hand to receive cheques for $12,500 per organization. In addition, Chairman of the Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund (CINRF) HE the Governor, Bruce Dinwiddy was presented with funds amounting to $28,847. All the donations will be administered by the National Recovery Fund.
Expressing his appreciation Mr Bodden said: “We accept this donation as a mark of empathy. It will be used to finance our summer enrichment programme for both primary and secondary school students. It will also support the National Gallery’s education and outreach programme and sponsor the Cayman Dance Company’s visit to the Aberdeen Youth Festival. In addition, we will be able to restore and reorganise the National Museum’s natural history collection which was destroyed by the hurricane.”
