
Local offshore lawyers appoint a new partner

Conyers Dill & Pearman (CD&P), the international offshore law firm, have appointed Kevin Butler as partner in the Cayman Islands office.
The firm was established in Bermuda in 1928 and with a complement of over 400 staff, CD&P has its headquarters there, but has operations in Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Hong Kong, London, Singapore and here in the Cayman Islands.
The firm advises on the laws of Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Anguilla and the Cayman Islands.
Mr Butler joined the Cayman office in July of 2004 and was called to the Cayman bar in August 2004. Prior to moving to Cayman, he spent seven years with CD&P’s Bermuda office.
Mr Butler’s practice includes all aspects of corporate and commercial law, specializing in securitizations, reorganizations and mergers and acquisitions.
He graduated in 1987 from the University of Western Ontario with a BA in Economics and obtained his LLB in 1993 from the University of British Columbia. Prior to joining CD&P, he worked for the Canadian law firm of Stikeman Elliott in their Vancouver and Montreal offices.
Regarding his move to Cayman, Mr Butler said: “I am very impressed with the sophistication of the infrastructure and the regulatory authorities, who are clearly dedicated to keeping Cayman at the forefront of international business.”
On a personal note, Mr Butler added: “I have enjoyed settling into life in Cayman with my wife and young daughter, and have been amazed at the strong sense of community and the resilience of the residents of Cayman, particularly following Hurricane Ivan.”

Also effective April 1st, 2005, Christopher Garrod and Peter Pearman will be admitted to the partnership in CD&P’s Bermuda office.
