Ebanks and Willis shine as Cable and Wireless send Caledonian Bank packing
Thursday, April 28, 2005
An entertaining, hard-hitting knock of 79 by Ryan Ebanks and a measured unbeaten 87 from Omar Willis, steered Cable & Wireless Schools to a comfortable victory over Caledonian Bank at the Jimmy Powell Oval.
The teams were competing in the Money Express Division Two competition. Schools scored 243 for three in forty overs and then restricted Caledonian Bank to 128 for eight in 39 overs, to win by 115 runs.
Ebanks was especially severe on left arm slow bowler Danny Greaves, clobbering him for 49 runs off his final three overs. Greaves had earlier bowled a tidy spell of five overs for just 13 runs.
Ebanks struck six sixes in his innings, all between mid off and straight mid wicket.
The wicket-keeper-batsman, who played for the Cayman Islands during the recent trip to Malaysia, also hit four fours in his undefeated 79.
Willis, who batted at number three, counted eight fours in his mature knock. Ricardo Roach, who opened, scored 35.
When Caledonian Bank replied, Willis struck an early blow by removing captain Ali Mudeen caught by Marc Chin for only three.
Marlon Bryan maintained the pressure with figures of four for 30 in eight overs as Caledonian found batting difficult against the youngsters.
Chris Smith was the leading scorer with 41.
