  • A Ridiculous Idea
To the writer of “A Ridiculous Idea” article published in the April 26 edition of the Cayman Net News. I agree with you that it is an absolute ridiculous idea to put a Maximum Security Prison on the Brac. What would we need a Maximum Security Prison on Cayman Brac for anyway? Cayman Brac and Little Cayman have been the places where we as CAYMANIANS and Foreigners alike have gone to escape from the hassles of everyday life and safety from crime here on Grand Cayman. Why must we destroy the peace and tranquility that Cayman Brac currently has with the corruption of placing violent criminals there in a maximum security prison!
Besides, building a maximum security prison would be a waste of Government funds. How many criminals will actually be kept in the prison? When it comes to major crimes, the situation will always remain the same, the police arrest someone, the victim’s family waits for justice and BAM not enough evidence and they get off. As you can see, as we continue to sit and watch each of these people get off of murders, it is because someone, somewhere isn’t doing their job properly. Then it will be a waste to build a Maximum Security Prison on Cayman Brac or anywhere for that matter.
With reference to the statement made referring to the local people on Grand Cayman as Grand Caymanians, I highly take offence to that, even though I may live on Grand Cayman, I am a CAYMANIAN and so are you. We should learn to live as though we are from one country and not as though we are from different parts of the world.
The same would go for Mr. Johnson’s statement that Cayman Brac could not be as economically viable as Grand Cayman. Cayman Brac is as economically viable as Grand Cayman as we are one country.
I am very sure that there are many things that the people on our Sister Islands want to see happen, that would be of the betterment of all three islands. The elected members from Cayman Brac and Little Cayman need to make sure that their voices are heard instead of being shut out. If you are frustrated with the fact that you cannot accomplish things for the Sister Islands, do not make the excuse it is because you are outnumbered. Stand up for the people on the Sister Islands; they need you as their voice. - Anonymous

  • Tiger at bay ‘Masters’ art of relaxation
Tiger’s yacht is worth over 20 million. How on earth could anyone think a yacht that size would be 3.5 million? His earlier yacht, the Magic, which was much smaller, was worth over 5 million. - Vinnie Blair

  • Miss Cayman Legit
I am a born Caymanian, but I don’t live there. I feel that if she represents our country well then she should be Miss Cayman. I also think that the contest should only be for natives of Cayman, if not then it should not be called Miss Cayman. - Kim

  • Thank you Bo Miller!
Last night I listened to the Chamber of Commerce Debate between the North Side candidates in the upcoming election. In my opinion, Bo Miller did a sterling job and stood out as the shining star! He expressed his ideas succinctly and with conviction.
I admit that I was previously leaning towards the incumbent, Mrs Moyle, but I was also paying close attention to the other candidates, Mr Bo Miller in particular, and last night I made up my mind that he is the right person to represent my wonderful district of North Side!
I read many of the postings on this forum, mainly by expatriates, attacking Bo Miller for his outspokenness in championing the rights of Caymanians. While I was aware that much contained in those attacks were untruths and/or facts twisted to suit their foreign interests, as a Caymanian I salute Mr Miller for being so forthright and speaking out in the interest of all Caymanians! No one is perfect, and I’m sure Bo Miller is not, but he sure has cahones and the brass that is required to stand up for his people – especially in the current political atmosphere in this country!
A point that stands out very strongly for me from last night’s debate was that while all three candidates expressed their disapproval of the Government’s wholesale grant of Caymanian Status, Mr Bo Miller quite rightly pointed out that all 15 members of the Assembly are responsible! As he said, the opposition stood by and did nothing! What did Mrs Moyle and her over-glorified PPM do to help to put this horrible wrong against my people right? A big fat nothing!
Whether or not they would have been successful is not the issue, the fact is the PPM did not even attempt to do anything! Their inaction alone makes them as guilty as the UDP. The wholesale grant of Caymanian Status to so many unworthy individuals was an insult to all Caymanians! (i.e. ALL Caymanians — those of us who were born here and those of us who worked to earn the right to become Caymanian!) That disgraceful act is something for which I will not forgive this Government AS A WHOLE, i.e. UDP and PPM! As Mr Bo Miller pointed out, we are already seeing and experiencing the negative results of it. Most Caymanians, including myself, feel that the wholesale granting of Caymanian Status was a disgrace and nothing short of a betrayal of our people.
My congratulations to you Mr Bo Miller! I salute you for speaking out for the rights of Caymanians. May God bless you and may the good people of North Side see fit to give you their vote on 11 May! - A Proud Caymanian

  • Former FBI Agent to deal with gangs
I believe in the element of surprise in matters like this, and while it is great and encouraging that CASA is bringing in Mr. Walker and others to have these seminars, it seems to me that it would have been more prudent to keep his identity and the details of his important visit SECRET, until after he had arrived, checked out the situation, and held some of the seminars, before making it all public.
After all... if this had been done in a more discreet way, then it would be more successful, because now the criminals will be sure to try to attend these seminars so that THEY can also be aware of the tactics that will be applied. As the old saying goes...”To be fore-warned, is to be fore-armed”, and in this case, the news release complete with pictures has armed the criminals and members of the gangs.
Too bad! But, I don’t blame the newspaper… I blame CASA and the Government Information Service that probably released the story. - A Native-Born Caymanian

  • Dyoll outstanding claims mount
What happens to the Dyoll policy holders who hold outstanding mortgages worth more than what their property is now worth? Even if there is a small payout, for many, it will not cover the gap between the mortgage and their loss, nor will it cover the cost to rebuild/refurbish. While the National Recovery Fund and other charities have been focusing on the uninsured, Dyoll claimants have, in effect, become the new-uninsured, and we currently see little light at the end of the tunnel. The National Recovery Fund has indicated that taking on these new-uninsured claimants is a task which is too large for them. Where do we go from here? - Anonymous
