The local community is showing a good deal of support for the school merit programme now operating through many of the Islands’ schools. Prospect Primary School’s Merit Store recently received CI$4,000 from local phone company Cingular Wireless, who made the donation at the school’s monthly PTA meeting.
The Merit Store is part of the school-wide behavioural programme ‘Don’t Slip Up’ which is based on five basic rules: follow directions, use your time wisely, respect yourself and others, raise your hand and walk safely and quietly. Every time children break one of the colour-coded rules, they receive a slip of the corresponding colour; for every day that a slip is not received, children earn points that are redeemable for highly coveted toys and books in the Merit Store. Cingular’s donation will keep the Merit Store fully stocked for the remainder of the school year.
Office and Human Resources Manager for Cingular Wireless Ms. Sarah Emerson, who presented the cheque said: “On behalf of Cingular Wireless, I thank Prospect Primary for their overwhelming display of gratitude and appreciation and we look forward to keeping the Merit Store stocked. We are delighted to be a part of this programme and we look forward to a continued partnership with the school.”
Also attending the presentation was Sales and Marketing Manager for Cingular Wireless, Mrs. Lucy Tibbetts: “We encourage other corporate citizens to contribute to Prospect Primary’s Merit Store, or any other worthwhile programme in our schools. We at Cingular feel that this is an essential role for businesses to play, as it invests in everyone’s future,” she said.
Principal of Prospect Primary School, Mr. Michael Walker thanked the Cingular Wireless representatives for their generosity and presented them with a photograph of students who have already benefited from the donation.
