Sports Person of the Week

Pearson Best
Friday, April 29, 2005
Police constable Pearson Best has been clocking up the runs for his employers on the Island for six years now.
It’s a familiar beat as the willow cracks the leather around the cricket grounds on Grand Cayman.
But at present Pearson is patrolling the streets of Cayman Brac in his role with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service.
He is not allowed to play any cricket there as the standard on the Brac is Division Two and Pearson is ruled out because he is a member of the
Cayman Islands national cricket team, which makes him slightly over qualified.
However, he is passing on his cricketing skills during the week helping the
Cayman Brac cricket coach and coaching at the local Cayman Brac High School.
Pearson, sponsored by PriceWaterhouse-Coopers, hit his highest ever score of 134 against Greenies, but rates his most satisfying innings as the 99 he scored against Kuwait in February this year playing for Cayman in an ICC match.
“There have been so many innings to look back on, but that was the best because of the quality and value of the innings,” said Pearson, who will be looking to smash lots more runs when Police take on By-Rite at Smith Road on Sunday.
