LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Mr Bush and the UDP are taking to personal attacks
Wednesday, May 4, 2005
Dear Sir,
It should be obvious to everyone with ears, eyes and a brain that it is Mr Bush and the UDP who are primarily taking to personal attacks. It is mostly on their platform that I have heard candidates referred to as ‘evil’ and as a ‘devil’, amongst other things.
Watching and listening to the ranting and raving I am reminded often of a school yard bully.
But I am not surprised they, cannot debate the PPM and the West Bay Alliance on the issues and thus find it necessary to stoop to personal attacks. I am also not surprised as this ‘bullying’ style has, in my opinion, been the hallmark of Mr Bush’s style over these many years.
The UDP is desperate because the majority of the country has had enough of Mr Bush and his failed UDP Government. They have had enough of scandals, of failures in the health system and in our schools. And they have not forgotten the ‘drive through status grants’.
As a member of the People’s Progressive Movement it gives me great pleasure to say to your readers that the PPM is winning the election. And we are winning it on the issues. No wonder the UDP attacks us for our issue-laden manifesto. Particularly when, in comparison their own manifesto is quite thin on ideas. It is a good feeling to be a member or well-wisher of the PPM as we approach Election Day.
On May 12 the bullying will stop; the country will heal; and we will have a PPM Government that the people of these Islands can trust.
However, we cannot sit on our laurels. There is still much work to be done to maintain the momentum and to bring our PPM candidates home. It is important that on May 11 you come out to vote for all the PPM candidates in your district. And encourage your family, friends and co-workers to vote PPM as well.
In West Bay, vote for the West Bay Alliance. And I know that my fellow Cayman Brackers will retire at least one of the present UDP incumbent candidates.
So… do not be distracted by Mr Bush and the UDP spin artists as they personally attack
members of the PPM or their other political opponents, or even the Press.
They are desperately trying to plant seeds of doubt in the minds of voters. But they will not succeed; for if you listen carefully to what they are saying and sift through the ‘ranting and raving’ you will quickly realize that there is no substance in what the UDP is saying. Indeed, it is mere rabble rousing.
On May 11 let us finish the job. Let us stop the bullying. Let us move forward with a Government that will work to fix the problems with the education system and schools and also in our health system. Let us vote for a Government that will not waste public funds. Let us vote out the UDP Government. Let us vote for Government that you can trust.
