Cooyah fashions come to Cayman

Thursday, May 5, 2005
Spectrum Promotions and Style 96.5 presented the official launch of Cooyah designs in the Cayman Islands on Friday 29 April with a Fashion Show at Royal Palms bar. The local Cooyah store is in West Bay, at Mackie Place and those who had waited patiently for the show to start were rewarded with an interesting array of casual and party wear, all with a distinctly Rastafarian flavour now available here in Cayman.
Cooyah is the licensed distributor of Bob Marley merchandise, and the evening’s guests included Kaymani Marley, Morgan Heritage and Spragga Benz.
Cooyah fashions are exemplified by muted, earthy colours, browns, greens, and warm reds. In keeping with the Bob Marley theme, there are also many Rastafarian adornments and symbols. The brightest colours were the Rastafarian rich red, green, gold, contrasted, of course, against a jet black background.
Model Georgette Bodden (also known as ‘Peachez’),who was one of the main attractions is also a singer, and has been supporting world-famous acts such as Kenny Rogers, Lucky Dube, Morgan Heritage, and Tanya Stephens. She is working to complete her own CD, titled, ‘Let Him Go,’ where she blends soulful sounds with Hip Hop and Neo Soul, but spent this Friday showing off some soul fashion instead of singing soul sounds.
Georgette was wearing a crotcheted midriff two-piece, in stunning red, gold, green and black stripes, with a matching hair tie.
Among Model Saskia Lewis’ outfits was a brown Knit mini shift dress, and Agatha Broderick, who enjoys working out, wore a stylish gray gym sweat top and bottom.
Next she wore matching shorts and a tank top, and finally stunningly stylish peek-a-boo jeans. Cuban model Meylyes Swaby wore a baggy T-shirt and shorts and Mysti Bush wore brown baggy shorts and a cream coloured crop top. Later she changed the shorts for brown hot pants.
The male models, David Parchment, Scott Hydes and Ross Robinson each sauntered on stage, to show off Cooyah’s collection of original T-shirts, emblazoned with a mixture of Rastafarian emblems and themes, such as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah and the Star of David.
